'Polarity'
A zine that visually challenges ideas of rebellion ‘Polarity’, explores the outward projection of identity. Traditionally, rebellion has been seen amongst society as a way to disrupt the norm, but how can individuals truly rebel in today’s post-modernistic era, where nothing is ground- breaking and everything is accessible? Polarity: ‘The state of having two opposite or contradictory tendencies, opinions, or aspects.’ This zine represents several individuals in 2 contrasting states, one which shows who they believe they are, and another which shows the antithesis, who they are not. Through experimenting with alternate styles, individuals were pushed out of their comfort zones, which provided an insight into the impact of fashion on self-expression and emotion. After rebelling against their identity and experimenting with a contrasting aesthetic, the individuals reflected on what their style means to them. They either unlocked an alter ego and enjoyed pushing their boundaries, or proved to themselves how important the security of their elected style is to them. ‘Polarity’ aims to provoke rebellion within yourself as a means to grow and strengthen your true identity and outward projection. How will you experiment with the polarity of your identity?
